How Can You Test A Car Battery?

Turning your keys in the ignition only to discover the car won't start can be annoying. At times, a dead battery even creates a dangerous situation. Batteries, however, don't last forever. So, you need to know how to test one effectively. The process isn't too tricky.

You will need a voltmeter to perform the actual test. A digital meter is preferred. When using the device, follow smart guidelines for safety. Wear rubber gloves and goggles and make sure the ignition and all lights are off.

Connect the voltmeter. Connect the positive test lead, followed by the negative one. Check out the reading that results. Afterward, remove the leads. Remove the negative one first. Don't force a removal if the leads are stuck as you could cause damage. And you might wish to clean the battery terminal.
